ALBUM REVIEW
Journey is like an autobiography album reflecting Douyé’s meaningful life experiences and her musical career. Her sultry soulful vocal taking on poetic lyrics appearing sensually in melodious and seductive smooth jazz vibe, all packed in 11 songs contain in the CD. It will never be enough to have this kind of music, and now we have a strong contender who should be listed among the top rank of soulful jazz singers with excellent voice. She is Douyé.
– Riandy Kurniawan – Jazzuality
In a word, wow! Newcomer Douye brings such a freshness, so much silky smoothness to our world of smooth jazz that she produced a beaming smile to my lips the moment I heard her belt out the first notes of her opening track. Such sultriness, such a sense of belonging here. Her debut album, Journey, is loaded with splendid melodies and rhythms and colored perfectly with her fine, oh-so-fine vocals. Such a combination is usually a success, and Douye is here to add an exclamation point to that assertion.
– Ronald Jackson – Smooth Jazz Vibes
It is not that Douye is influenced by masters such as Billie Holiday and Stevie Wonder, but rather that Douye expands on the examples that each person provided. What comes forth during Journey is the logical progression to the last album of some of these masters, and is the start to will undoubtedly be an amazing career for Douye.
– James McQuiston – Neu Futur
There are plenty of highlights on this CD and a must have for your collection. Track “Fly Away” is romantic and musically jazzy, Track “In Love With You” has a smooth R&B sound with Regina Belle like vocals., “Journey” is a excellent jazz track and vocally is powerful, “Wicked War” is full of thought provoking vocals with hot jazz sounds, last but not least “Walk Away” is a favorite that once again has great vocals and is a testament of strength which make this CD inspirational throughout. Douye’s “Journey” is a great project and thanks for the music.
– Barbara Fulton – Just Soul
Her music style is Soul, Jazz and some R&B. This is a melow, grown folk type song. Teenagers and youngins in their early 20s will have no clue (Who knows I might be wrong). The older people who frequent the jazz clubs will definitely want to add her album to their collection. I’m diggin it, her style is similar to Kem’s.
– Not Just Ok
